Everyone always asks me how teaching with the new technology is going.
My response is always, “It is AMAZING!”
It is truly has transformed my classroom!
The second most common question is if it takes a lot of time to implement. The answer is, “Yes, but it is worth it.”
In the beginning of the year I did not use the technology as much as I had planned and it was really frustrating. I desperately wanted to get it out and use it all of the time, but my students were adjusting to fifth grade and they were just not ready. Initially, using the technology takes more time, so a 30-minute assignment will take an hour because you have to teach the students the lesson in addition to how to use the technology, and of course give them time to actually use it. Fifth graders are young and they are also still learning how to follow multiple step directions, so plan for even longer. However, kids are naturally intuitive with all things technology and they learn quickly!
Now that we are at the end of our third 6 weeks we are much more productive with our use of our equipment.
